    Vince,

It sounds suspiciously like the O. Henry story Gift of the Magi.

He sold his watch to buy her a comb for her hair, only to find she;d cut it all off to buy something for him.

While many of us are addicted to our personal digital assistants (Blackberry aka crackberry), what's the name for the addiction to new challenges?

     Crack writers?

    ecxtasy  producers?

Okay, I'm going to stop now...this is getting silly.Embarassed

Sending out hugs and congratulations to teachlu7, sbwriter, sheandeen and Fandl-- way to go!

To all who entered--It takes determination to finish a story and guts to put your 'baby' out there for the rest of us to see.

I've enjoyed reading all of the entries and learned something from each one of them, either technique, style, characterization and more. You all rock!

I have an idea for the challenge using scenario # 1, but it needs a little bit of creative bending for me to pull it off. Innocent

    Any objections?

If not I'll continue working on it until it's done.

Anita Mae, where do you live? Somewhere in southern Alberta?

There is a Calgary chapter with 50 members and six published authors.

Check them out at calgaryrwa dot com.

I'm in sales and marketing, but I also write feature stories once a week for our local daily newspaper. (BTW, my pic is the same one that appears in my column every week, lol)

I'm also a grad of Public Relations, which involves lots of writing.

But it's way different than writing fiction, something I've been doing since I was a kid.

The best story idea I ever had came to me in a dream, and I wasn't writing at the time. But the  dream was so strong and the characters stayed with me until I got back to writing. The idea had turned into a three-part series in single title. Years after I had that dream, I'm still working on it.

Welcome to the newbies. Great to have you! The more the merrier. Also, welcome back to those who haven't visited in awhile.

    To Misty and Anita Mae:

I live alone and don't have money to throw around either, but the first thing that gets paid: My RWA national dues.

You think it's expensive? Try paying it when the exchange was $1 US =$1.40 CDN. But I did it.

It's money well spent and the best return on investment every year. I've learned so much about writing, the business and made so many new friends, I can't even tell you.

When I found RWA several years ago, I felt like I'd come home. The writers I met got what I was talking about. Other groups I'd been a part of didn't get romance at all. And most of them never wanted to publish their work. Ever.

Now I'm part of a group that wants to do both.

Anita Mae, there is an online chapter for those too far away from a regular chapter. And I'm sure there is a special interest chapter for inspirational writers.

Misty, there are also groups that give monthly online writing courses for cheap, ($15-$20) like the Low Country RWA; RWA Mystery and Suspense chapter; announceonline and others. For most courses, you don't have to be a member to take part.

     Just my two cents!

Going to work on my challenge,

    Val
