"Only days before she was about to give birth, Emily left her husband, Duarte de Monteiro. She'd heard from a friend that he wanted to keep their baby - but not his wife...
Now Duarte has traced her and their baby son, and brought them back to Portugal. He's proud; he wants to keep his wife - especially as he can still possess her with the slightest touch....
Emily still loves Duarte, but has he brought her back because he loves her - or because he loves his son?"
I struggled with the rating on this one. I liked the story but I was very angry at both the h and H for a good ½ of the book, but then, I thought if a book can get me that riled up it has to be good!
In the beginning, Emily drove me nuts! She had a number of TSTL moments, the main one being that she agreed she'd been unfaithful when another man kissed her. Even after she qualified the statement by saying she didn't enjoy it. Huh?
Duarte was a domineering so and so, who needed a slap upside the head just to get him to listen. Although these things bothered me, I could understand why Emily was a wimp after meeting her family. And both of them were subjected to conspiracies from their "friends". Although, if they had just calmed down and talked to each other, none of the angst would have happened. But then - there'd be no story! Half way through, Emily developed a backbone and gave Duarte a run for his money. I don't think he ever knew what hit him!
I recommend this one, even just to get your blood boiling!
