177. Sharon Sala ~ Deep in the Heart ~ HarperTorch (Jan 2003)

I've been looking at this book from my keeper shelves for awhile now and, after reading the back of the book and not remembering much of anything decided that I was up for a re-read.  I'm really glad that I did!  But then it's by Sharon Sala so, for me, that's a given that I'll love it.
I wrote up a synopsis rather than copying the blurb from the back because it was, IMHO, misleading and not very well done.  Of course I then ended up practically writing a short essay, but... oh well.  *shrug*

The story is first and foremost a story of love, but also a story of character ~ not story-type character, but a person's character, that something which defines us.  Sharon Sala excels at the elements of love and character; in this story she's written a strong hero and heroine ~ both of whom are just that.  The emotions that she writes of are almost tangible, certainly something that we can relate to.  Her characters come to life and develop and live... and I love it.  VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

SYNOPSIS:
Samantha Carlyle is living in Los Angeles, but not for long.  Not because she's planning on moving, but because she has a stalker who is determined to end her life after having spent months tormenting her.  Not only she is near to losing her mind, but she's lost her job and the police think that she's doing it to herself.
On the verge of giving up, though, Samantha remembers that there is one person who might do something to help her.  She sends a letter back to her old, small Texas hometown to Johnny Knight ~ her best friend, her first love, the one person that she knows that she can count on.
Fifteen years ago Sam Carlyle left Cotton, Texas with her parents and Johnny Knight had never heard another thing from her and his many letters had been returned unopened.  But when he gets a letter from Sam asking for help, John Thomas Knight, now sheriff of the county where he and Sam grew up, immediately leaves to do what he can.  When he finds living her in terror, he blasts the police and then takes Sam back home to Texas.
But the stalker is determined to see that Samantha Carlyle pays ~ will John Thomas be able to save her?
