198. Kasey Michaels ~ Becket's Last Stand ~ HQN (Nov07)

Finally, finally we arrive at the end of the road for the Beckets of Romney Marsh... and at long last we find out the entire backstory... the story that has, as the series progresses, become a little clearer with each book.  I've actually liked the way that Kasey Michaels did this... a little information doled out with every story.  In each book we learn just how the main character became a part of Ainsley Becket's unique and intriguing family.  And there are a few more hints about how they came to leave the island paradise so many years before ~ until TA DA! ~ we learn it all.  And, while it's kept me hooked, it's also GREAT that we finally learn it all; the good and the bad; the joyous and tragic... all of it finally revealed.
And I've got to say that the epilogue was great!  Understated, but wonderful for all that.  VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Now saying all that I do have a small complaint, which is why the story rated a 4.0 instead of 4.5 as the others did... it was just a bit towards the end of Court's and Cassandra's story that I felt there was a real fumble in the way that Ms. Michaels finished with our H and h... not entirely sure what it was, but it jarred a bit... otherwise, I did enjoy it a lot.

RATING:
Excellence: Excellent+ ~ 4.0 stars
Steaminess: Sensual

BOOK READ:
Kasey Michaels; HQN Historical Romance; Nov 2007
7th in the Beckets of Romney Marsh series

FROM the BACK:
For years Courtland Becket had denied himself the only woman who stirred his blood, yet he could no longer pretend to ignore the lovely Cassandra. For gone was the girl he had once teased ~ replaced by a fully grown woman, adamant that they act on their long-denied feelings. It was time for the self-appointed protector of all things Becket to allow himself a taste of the forbidden.
But passion's price might very well prove too high when an age-old enemy returns to wreak revenge against the entire Becket clan, leaving Courtland torn between his newfound love...and his duty to the family that means more to him than life itself.

NOTE:  One point that may affect the enjoyment of this story for some readers ~ Courtland was one of the children adopted by Ainsley Becket years before; Cassandra was Ainsley and Isabelle's daughter (Isabelle being Ainsley's much beloved wife whose murder was part of the reason their lives changed so drastically).  While they were ostensibly raised as brother and sister, they've always had a relationship that superceded the sibling relationship that Ainsley's other children had... so, while I don't consider it *icky* I'm sure that for some people,it may definitely cross a line.

I'm glad to hear that this

I'm glad to hear that this book is worth waiting for!  I too, have enjoyed the Becketts of Romney Marsh and I have this book in my TBR pile.  However, I had to order and read (still unread) "The Prodigal Son Returns" before I'd let myself read this one.  Thanks, TrudyCool

Hi Trudy...

I'm really glad that I had three of them to read one right after the other ~ it really got me back into their world; the conclusion was, IMHO, all that more satisfying because of it.

Yep, Kasey Michaels has done it again!
