#353 The Rescuer by Peggy Moreland (SD #765)

Gunner is the fire chief who breaks down Marybeth's door when her daughter Miranda calls emergency to say she thinks her mother is dead. Marybeth was just exhausted after a long business trip but Gunner jumps to a lot of wrong conclusions which generate dislike and mistrust but Miranda reacts well to him so Marybeth concentrates on that and falls in love with the firefighter, but she's worried because Gunner has an obsessive compulsion to oversee every fire call they receive.
I didn't like Gunner and the assumptions he made and while his personal history was supposed to explain his behaviour it didn't make up for it from my pov. I loved Joe, I thought Marybeth was way too patient and lenient with Miranda's shenanigans. Gunner, Marybeth (and presumably Peggy Moreland) loved Miranda and so were willing to put up with her quirks. I didn't.
