#61: The Boss and Miss Baxter by Wendy Warren SSE Feb 2006

Score: 3.5

I read this book primarily because I heard that the Jewish religion played a part in the story.  I had never read a book where the heroine was part of a practicing Jewish family and I was pleased by the Jewish culture and how Nina's faith was woven into her everyday life.  The issue of a non-Jewish boyfriend was not a part of the story, though David did show a respect and attraction to the warm family circle during the Jewish Shabbat.

Nina is a single mom of two small children and was just laid off from David's company.  Due to mismanagment by family members, David was fighting to keep the company from going under, but also torn by the sick feelings of having to let loyal workers go.  They meet in a humorous scene where Nina almost decapitates David with a travel mug.  And it seems that Nina is continually doing or saying something embarrassing everytime he shows up.  He is almost too forgiving of her continual insults and hiring her as a personal assistant who lives in his home is pretty far fetched, but it was a nice warm story with likable characters.  You wanted to see them all happy.
