Cesare Vallente tells his son Alex to marry and produce an heir or lose the family business.
When Alex tries to call his bluff, dad says he will sell the company and Alex’s brothers will get nothing either. Alex is reeling from the shock. Several days later he meets his stepmother Isobel at a fashion show and is immediately drawn to the woman announcing the models. She is the designer, Olivia Cannington. Isobel tells him her mother is Felicia Cannington, the actress. He meets her at the after party and introduces himself and insists they have to go to dinner the next evening. There he tells her he wants to marry her for a year. It will be a real marriage, he will bail out her company which is overextended financially and she will become his wife to appease his father’s demands. He does not tell her about the heir. When she finally agrees to his proposal, he tells her the wedding is set for 2 weeks at the Sydney Opera House.
Olivia was married once before and it was a disaster. She never planned to marry again, however, her mother is trying to jumpstart her career and owes a lot of money. Olivia has been helping her as well as expanding her business and is strapped for cash. Alex is offering the perfect solution. Although they have known each other a very short time the chemistry is really hot. The honeymoon is at the Vallente holiday home near Ballina. Of course Olivia is very nervous of sleeping with her new husband but the alpha male settles that. They walk on the shore and Olivia gets ideas for her new collection of designs. The next day he is in the office working so she goes down to the beach to sketch and is assaulted by a reporter which Alex takes care of quickly.
They learn each other in this precious time away from everyone.
Can Olivia get through the year unscathed and leave Alex or will he break her heart? Can Alex open his life to a woman to cherish and love or will he walk away? What else is Olivia hiding from him?
