“Everyone knows the best one night stands happen at weddings.”
CPA and Maid of Honor, Marcee Robbins scanned the crowd and wandered thru the tables greeting and chatting with friends and strangers. A small boy was sitting at a table all alone and looking miserable and asking for his mommy. She went to help him and was aided by a tall, hot, delectable stranger. Sam McKelvey was a Chicago police detective who found this delightfully gorgeous red head very interesting. They got the child handled and then danced a dance. They talked for a while, walked to her room, kissed good night and he started to walk away. She invited him in and a delightful time was had by all. They did not exchange phone numbers. Marcee figured she would never see him again.
Marcee’s mom had a poor reputation back in Ellwood, Ill. She had just married her fifth husband, Mad Dog, a cross country trucker and told her sons that she was going on the road with him. Marcee had moved out at 18 and moved to Chicago. She put herself thru college and was a CPA with D&D a well known Chicago accounting firm. Her brother Tom had been offered a job in Seattle so Marcee volunteered to come back to Ellwood to stay with her youngest brother, Camden, 17, so he could finish high school. They didn’t know each other because Marcee had never been back since Camden’s father had kicked her out of the house when Cam was a baby. She drove into the driveway as Tom and his wife were leaving for Seattle. So much for a welcome back home. She met Camden when he woke up and they got acquainted. She decided to go for a run and while on the trail almost fell over and was helped up by….. Sam McKelvey. Seems he is the new Sheriff in town. Small world. It also seems his 17 year old daughter, Fern, is her brother Camden’s newest friend.
This book is a wonderful trip down small town minds and teenagers means of getting attention. Sam decided to move from Chicago to a small town to reacquaint himself with his daughter. His wife had died and he had been putting the job first for years. Fern was going to be a senior and he felt it was his last chance. Marcee was looking to make changes in her life also and coming home and getting closure was part of it.
This was not the book I thought it was but I truly enjoyed it and recommend it.
