American Beauty by Ashley Ladd, Ellora's Cave, February 2004
After screwing up his last case Lieutenant Brad Mueller's captain assigned him to a stake out. One where the studly lieutenant had to act gay and dress in drag because there was a place for rent next door of the place he needed to go undercover in, but the landlady, Kristen Engle, wouldn't rent to a single man. Brad goes by the name Bradley Miller and it's a good thing too because Kristen works at the flower shop he sends his roses from. But Kristen doesn't have a very high opinion of the ladies man Brad Mueller who sends roses to a different lady almost weekly. If he doesn't solve this case there is a serious threat of demotion, so being attracted to Kristen isn't helping. And because he told her a sob story about breaking up with his boyfriend, she decides to cheer him up by setting him up with her boss, her very gay boss.
This story was one laugh after another. It got even funnier (if possible) when both Kristen and her boss set out to see which could seduce him. The name of the story comes from the fact that he's a ladies man and the roses of choose he sends are America Beauties. I loved it.
