SYNOPSIS: Shannon Connor has harbored a grudge against the Athena Academy ever since her expulsion fifteen years ago. Her career has a reporter has skyrocketed, thanks to tips from a mysterious benefactor. Now, someone claiming to be her tipster wants to meet her while others appear intent on killing her. Just how does the sexy Rafe Santorini fit into this picture? His ties to the Athena Academy make him an instant suspect in Shannon's eyes but is he really trying to get her killed?
MY THOUGHTS: I really didn't think anyone could make Shannon likable. She has been such a dark figure throughout the series, always dogging the footsteps of the other women of the Athena Academy and putting a negative spin on things. Meredith Fletcher proves that Shannon is redeemable, even heroic, in BENEATH THE SURFACE.
Shannon's character is one we've seen through the eyes of her foes as this line has progressed. It is refreshing to see her story told through her own eyes. Shannon has no idea of just how much of a pawn she has been, The revelations in BENEATH THE SURFACE give a whole new perspective on the depth and time length of the malicious plotting against the Athena Academy.
Meredith Fletcher always writes a phenomenal story and BENEATH THE SURFACE is no exception.

I'm glad you liked it!
I thought you would enjoy it. It put a different spin as to why she did so many things. Joyce

re: Beneath the Surface
I am way behind on the new Athena Force series (think I've only read the first two or three) but I am really looking forward to this one--I've been hoping for a book about Shannon since the series started! Glad to see you enjoyed it. I'll have to get back at my Athena reading!
Gotta get busy
Gotta get busy and read Flashpoint so I can read this one. There's a couple of books I just haven't enjoyed as much and sometimes it's hard to get going on them again. It helps knowing the next books are better and I'm looking forward to learning the why's of Shannon's actions.

Shannon....
was a character that has been so hated that I was curious to see how she could be redeemed. This is one of the better books I've read in the series lately. Like you, Deb, some have been hit and miss for me lately. And Joyce and Merri, I agree with both of you that this one was really good. Lady A, I think you'll like most of the books in this line but there are a couple that just did not work for me at all so.... This one was really good, though!

re: Athenas
Debi, it`s the same for me, the last Athena I read in that series didn`t really work for me (oddly, it was one others liked a lot) so that`s why I took a break. I`ll get back on them, though...my next one up is a Meredith Fletcher, actually: Vendetta. I already love the protagonist`s name...Winter. Very cool.
