A Baby...Maybe? by Bonnie Tucker (HD 108)

Cara Romano's mom made a bet with one her friend's moms about whose daughter would marry first. Cara is sick of her mom inviting her over to meet random loser guys so now that it's summer break (Cara is a kindergarten teacher) she decides to hide out in Texas. While there she accidentally dumps a plate of chicken on this really hot guy's head (he is on the ground next to the deck looking for a cell phone) and decides that she's going to use a sperm bank to get pregnant and forget about marriage. Only the sperm bank billboard she sees is actually for bull semen...and is run by the hot guy who doesn't know her name since she's forbidden everyone in town from giving him – in case he would call her mom and tell her where she's hiding out! Anyway so while trying to save face at the sperm bank meeting Cara pretends she wants to buy a cow and land and semen so her cow can have a calf... but that gives Rex Noble a reason to see her some more so here's happy.

Yeah, I think this might be a screwball comedy and I'm not so sure how well it worked for me. It's a very silly book, and it did make me laugh but I don't know whether I was laughing with it or at it. Besides which Cara's mistaking the bull place was really stupid – the billboard was surrounded by a giant bull and cow making eyes at each other in anatomically correct detail (and it was dragged on to long). I don't necessarily feel Cara is TSTL but there maybe was some inconsistent characterization going on. When back in PA Cara thinks how she's like to have a kid to raise right and show all those kindergarten parents how its done – then in TX she's desperate for a baby to the extent that after she realizes it's a bull sperm bank she actually pinpricks one of Rex's condoms and thinks about how “she would have to win it [Rex's sperm] honestly.” I thought that the plot line could only get smarter after Cara realizes it's a bull sperm bank but it didn't...
