The Beast Within

Okay, I’m going to be honest—I did not expect to like this book.  I only picked it up because I’ve been wanting to read a Nocturne ever since the line debuted.  I’m not a big paranormal fan, so the blurb for this story didn’t really get me going.

Our hero is Jag, the leader of the Knights of White, men who battle the Darkland Beasts.  The Knights are good, the Beasts are evil.  Jag lost his wife to the Beasts, and he’s been fighting his inner beast ever since.  He’s immortal, and a serious warrior.  Our heroine is Karen, who is dragged into this fight between good and evil when her sister is taken captive by the Beasts.  Karen and Jag have both been having the same erotic dreams that hint at a connection between them and force them to examine who they really are and what they mean to each other.

So, like I said, I wasn’t expecting to like this.  The plot is too paranormal for me, I’m not crazy about vampires, and the premise of good vs evil was too much like Lord of the Rings for me.

But I was wrong.  Yep, wrong.  Why?  Because I loved this book.  I was hooked from page one, and ended up staying up until 2 in the morning reading the story from start to finish. Lisa Renee Jones created a world that sucked me in.  I loved the characters (especially the side characters, Jag’s fellow Knights, and even the villainsLaughing).  The chemistry between the h/H rocked, and I was rooting for them from beginning to end.

So the moral of this review is, keep an open mind when you’re trying a new genre.  I thought I would hate this type of story, and ended up loving it.  And I’m now planning on ordering all the other Knight books that Lisa is writing for Nocturne.
