I very much enjoyed this book in the series -- I watched the TV show before picking up the books, and so I have Henry and Vicki kind of firmly in my head from watching the episodes, but that doesn't hurt the reading one bit.
In this one, an ancient sarcophogus yields a mummy who wants to take over the world, starting in Toronto, and its god is seeking revenge on Vicki -- sounds silly, but actually has some pretty scary moments, and a very well done plot, really. The writing here seemed much stronger than in the previous one I read (Blood Trail -- it was a good story, but the writing was all over the place). There was one loose end, concerning the character Rachel, that is never really wrapped up, and I won't say more to avoid spoilers.
Henry is a star in this book. I can see how Huff is working him toward his own series with Tony, as Vicki is prominent, but Henry is the more interesting character, IMO. I haven't read the Smoke series, and I didn't think I would, but just maybe...

I read these
books for last years challenge. I think they are much better than the few eps I have seen of the series.
I like Henry better as a romance novelist.

It took me a minute to
It took me a minute to remember which series you were talking about. Darned brain-fart.
I didn't watch the first few episodes of the show--only caught later ones. Felt a little lost but was getting into it when it went off again. I think it was cancelled. Anyhow, I didn't know it was based on books. I might have to check one out.

Yeah
I'm not clear on the relationship between the books and the series -- I think the series is loosely based on the characters, but not the storylines, per se.
Henry is a novelist in the TV show still, isn't he? I thought I remembered that...
Some of the shows are really dorky, and then they'll have some that are really scary -- the last one I saw, about some sort of evil fae impregnating human women, was really creepy. I didn't care too much for that...

I think
Only the first episode was based on the first book. The rest seem to go their own way.
In the books henry is a romance novelist, and in the series he writes graphic novels.
