This is a two in one Presents featuring two stories with characters who are not quite who they seem...

Something Borrowed by Miranda Lee
Ashleigh O'Neil is marrying her first true love's twin brother James Hargraves as they've had a stable relationship and both want children. She loved Jake but he broke her heart when he was convicted of heroin tracking in Thailand the summer before they were to start college and told her he never wanted to see her again. Ashleigh isn't so sure sex with James will be anywhere near as good as with Jake and hasn't made love with him yet, so she's a bit apprehensive on the morning of her wedding and this is only made worse when James' mother tells her she's heard from Jake and gives her the locket she left with him when he was in jail in Thailand. Compounding matters all of a sudden James is acting sexy and assertive – exactly like Jake!
This story was soo melodramatic it really belongs on a soap opera; it was great! It's not perfect of course, particularly because of the short length and therefore ...compact...conclusion. Also, not a big fan of the needless 10 year separation or the way the characters take comfort in one of them possibly being “not really gay” - he's just confused...sure... But still our two are happy and I'm happy for them!

Vendetta by Susan Napier
Vivian Mitchell was involved in a car accident that killed a pregnant woman and injured a father and son. Now 10 years later she realizes that the father, Nicholas Thorne, acting as a business client under the name Rose, is trying to carry out the revenge plan he threatened so many years ago, and being the softhearted person that she is, Vivian heads off to Nowhere Island in place of her sister to try to bring the man back to sanity and spare her family the drama. Only the attraction between her and dangerous looking Nicholas Thorne is overwhelming – as is the poison he slips into her champagne. Vivian wakes up semi-naked in bed with Nick surrounded by photographic evidence seemingly displaying the two of them in erotic clinches. Nick is threatening to send the pictures and her engagement ring back to Peter Marsh – not realizing she's broken off the engagement and it would be her sister's wedding to Marsh that the pictures would stop! What should she do!
This book perfectly compliments the other story in reaching high melodramatic heights! Nick's threats are completely over the top – he even implies that he'll impregnate Vivian so she can pay him back for the baby he lost in the accident! I think it works really well though, maybe in no small part due to the fact that I've read this numerous times before and know that Nick isn't vendetta-crazed but is more experiencing a sort of temporary suspension of some good judgment in his panic over meeting and being afraid to lose the woman of his dreams all at once. Vivian is equally reckless and forgiving though so I have no worries about their future happiness!
