This is about Maggie, a sister and daughter who is single and looking. She refers to her love life up until now as a Joke Book. She thinks he is in love with an Irishman who comes into the diner she owns and after telling her family and some friends and them telling other friends, she goes to Mass and finds out he is the new Priest. Her high school sweetheart goes to Stanford to college but she stays goes to one close to home and even though they keep in contact, after a years playing shortstop for the Minnesota Twins, he returns to town with a woman who he later marries. He never broke up with her and she had driven many miles when possible to attend his games.
However, right under her nose is Malone, a fisherman who is quiet and she doesn't see him as marriage material. She continues to volunteer for every group that she can find thinking it could lead to her meeting someone special.
This sounds like a bit of a sad book but is funny in part and many of us can relate to her story..
