A Consultant Beyond Compare by Joanna Nell - Medical - May 08

For Katie Sorenson life was getting complicated. She was not any longer practicing medicine due to a traumatic incident in A&E where she once worked. She was working in a rehabilitation center where first a workman drilled a hole through a water pipe, then shortly after that one of the builders had taken a nasty rumble off the roof. Then the center had closed and she was out of a job.

But that was only the beginning of her really bad luck. She got a phone call from a man saying he had her sister Jessica with him. He had found her hitching a ride at the roadside and she was only 13. He accused her of being neglectful of her sister. (But her sister had run away from home and was trying to reach Katie.) Jessica had lied to the man about who was responsible for her. After picking up her sister they were headed to Katie's home when they came upon and accident blocking the road. As they were waiting for the road to be cleared Jessica noticed something in the bushes that looked like a person. He had been badly injured and all of the ambulances had left the area so Katie had to use her medical knowledge to help save his life. As she was doing that the man who had confronted her earlier showed up and she discovered he was a doctor. As ot turned out he offered her a job at an A&E where he worked. She at first turned him down because of the traumatic incident she had had at the A&E she had previously worked at. But she needed a job and finally accepted the one he offered. Unfortunately she did not tell him what had caused her to quit practicing medicine and it would come back to haunt her. Things began to get really complicated.

I very much enjoyed the book.
