When Giovanna Trainello's brother and father are gunned down in a mob related hit she must take over the family until her older brother Lorenzo has recovered from his injuries. Lorenzo was injured in the same hit that ended his father and brother's lives. Gia knows that this is a temporary situation. Though she has vowed to punish the ones responsible, the "family" will probably fully accept a woman as its head. Gia had to leave her partner in charge of their fashion design company to deal with all the problems. Unfortunately, Gia's first love Lucas "Luca" Paretti has returned to the family as a lawyer. Once upon a time Luca and Gia had been in love then after the death of his younger brother Luca left without a word to Gia. I liked this story, but it was very intense. With all the violence associated with the mob and FBI focus there is also a very intense scene with Gia and Luca when she tells him about a sad part of their past.
"It is to the credit of human nature that, except where its selfishness is brought into play, it loves more readily than it hates."
Nathaniel Hawthorne – The Scarlet Letter
