Desert Prince, Expectant Mother by Olivia Gates, Mills and Boon Medical, April 2008
Larissa McPherson volunteered with GAO as a surgeon in Bibayla. This way she could learn about her baby's father's family. But one of the first people she meets is Dr. Faress Aal Rasheed. They are very much drawn to each other. But because he is the brother of her baby's father she won't give in to her attraction. Faress can't figure out why Larissa keeps resisting his charms when he knows her desire for him is just as strong. Because Faress is so attracted to her, getting to know the family of her the baby's father just got easier. Faress wants Larissa to come stay at the palace. Larissa believes Faress is just a playboy and that his pursuit of her is just his conquering habit. With his sister and brother dead, will he give in to the king and cast Larissa aside to please his father and agree to an arranged marriage? And what of the child Larissa carries? A child that is the heir to the throne.
Wow there was such intensity in this book. Olivia took care of any ick factor by making Larissa a surrogate mother for her sister and the brother's baby. We see how versatile her writing is by seeing a change in tone of the steamier Desire to the slower paced more emotional Medicals. This was a gripping tale. There was an array of emotions these two went through. First by her always having to pull away from Faress, then Faress learned that his brother was dead and she was carrying his child. But he was under the assumption that she was his brother's widow and she didn't correct him for fear off him taking the baby from her. so we saw longing, anger, heartbreak, fear and through it all we saw love.
