Diamond In The Rough (Kate's Boys) by Marie Ferrarella - SSE - July 08

This book is a sequel to Marie's book, Mother for Hire, published in 1989 as a Silhouette Romance. In it Bryan Marlowe was a widower with four boys (a set of triplets and a single) who needed a nanny. Kate was a child psychology student who took on the job and ended up staying as wife and mother. The boys are now grown up and on their own.

Mike Marlow (the single) is a sports writer for the LA Times. He wrote an article about why Steven Orin Shaw (who had been a really great pitcher but had been banned from baseball because he had been gambling on games) should never be considered for placement in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Miranda Shaw (a research chemist) was the daughter of Shaw and was extremely upset over Mike's article. Miranda emailed Mike about his article and he emailed her back. The emails between the two continued until Mike finally suggested they meet to discuss the issue. When they did meet Mike got the feeling the woman he was talking to knew Shaw and asked her if she could introduce them so he could interview Shaw. Miranda refused at first. Eventually Mike met Shaw when Miranda told him to meet her at the field where her father was coaching a Little League team. Mike was not to tell Shaw who he was or else Shaw would not talk to him. This way Mike could get to know Shaw with telling him he was a reporter. As Mike got to know Shaw he gained respect for him and Shaw liked Mike. Shaw had been injured in a car accident and although he had had several surgeries he was still unable to walk. He had one last surgery scheduled that if successful would allow him to walk again and when he went into the hosipital for surgery he asked Mike to take over the Little League team.
