The Earl's Secret

A. J. Goodfellow has been writing scathing articles about the Tory party for the "Scottish Monthly Gazette."  As leader of the Tory party of England, the Earl of Treybourne has fired back at this upstart writer.  Now, however, the Earl of Treybourne, a.k.a. David Archer, comes to Edinburgh to discover the identity of this A. J. Goodfellow from his friend Nathaniel Hobbs-Smith.  As schoolboy friends, David was sure that Nate would tell him who this A.J. Goodfellow is.  Unfortunately, when he entered the office, he found none other than Anna Fairchild and she was less than welcoming even though she didn't know David's true identity.  Secretly, the Earl supported the causes that A. J. Goodfellow espoused but must uphold the party line.  Anna, too, has secrets of her own.  As the Earl tries to discover the identity of A. J. Goodfellow, he becomes enamored of Anna who fears that David "Archer" will discover her secrets.

This is a good story.  David and Anna are more alike than they think and it's fun to watch them dance around their secrets.  If the conversation is a bit stilted, it was due to the time period the story is set in when propriety must be observed.  I give this book a B+.Cool
