The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

Format: Print Books

Blurb from book: The Wheel of Times turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again.

In the Third Age, and Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

Book 1 in the Wheel of Time series. It all starts in the small village of Emond's Field. Where Rand al'Thor, Perrin Aybara, Egwene al'Vere, Nynaeve al'Meara and Mat Cauthon are pulled into an unthinkable adventure against the Father of Evil by the Aes Sedai Moiraine and her Warder Lan.

This is a reread, I originally started this series way back in '94. Jordan passed away last September and I decided to restart the series when I'd learned Brandon Sanderson would be finishing the final book A Memory of Light, per the Jordan website Fall '09 release planned, in his memory. I'd forgotten just how indepth and time consuming these books are. It's one of the aspects that make the entire series so great. The world Jordan created is so detailed that speeding through would leave you lost. I caught things I honestly don't remember reading the first time. The series is up there with Tolkien in my mind, so thick it you can almost taste it at times. My original plan was to read one book a month but I'm thinking it'll be every other month. You need lighter material between the books. A classic.
