Falling for Mr. Dark and Dangerous by Donna Alward, Harlequin Romance Aug08, #4044

Format: Print Books

Maggie owns a B and B. She has a daughter who has gotten into trouble with the police. Enter handsome and sexy Nate Griffith. They start shooting sparks off each other, but Maggie does not want to respond to this dangerous newcomer in her life. How will they get past their differences?

Right from, “The crunch of tires on snow…,” I was swept up into the story that Alward started weaving. From the first meeting she starts building the passion between Maggie and Nate. There have been many blogs extolling the emotional depth that the reader finds in this story. There is a good reason for this. Alward takes chances writing something other than light, fluffy romances—instead she takes risks with writing about intense, gutsy, blacker emotions. I read one of her stories that explored PTSD in the Hero. This time around, it is the heroine who is suffering from PTSD. She has been traumatized by several deaths, but one in particular comes back to haunt her. I enjoy the risks this author takes in creating her protagonists and she has become an auto-buy for me. Thumbs up!

oh THANK YOU!  You've paid me several very LOVELY compliments in there.  I'm glad my "risk taking" resonates with you!

I especially needed it today.  Sometimes the words just do not come out all nice and pretty.  :-)

Donna, sometimes it is hard

Donna, sometimes it is hard to read your stories because they can be intense. However, I still manage to finish one of your books in a couple of hours. But I respect your gutsy stories and admire your writing so much. I can only imagine that it is hard to write with the emotional depth and intensity--it must take a lot out of you at times. But this is one reader who appreciates all your pain.Wink
