False Memory

Lori Borrill
Format: Print Books
Series: Other

I thought this was a very good book, though a bit disturbing at times.  Despite that, there's a nice HEA, and an extremely interesting and creative plot.

Problem:  The book is 750 pages, something I somehow overlooked when I threw it in my cart at the grocery store.

Honestly, I did a ton of skimming after the first 200 pages, because it got too repetitive, and the lengthy wandering narrative really screwed with the pace.  This would have been a fantastic read at about 450 pages, and I imagine it would have brought with it the added bonus of taking the author less time to write it.  But, I suppose when I'm making Dean Koontz money, I can claim myself an authority, huh?

Hi Lori...

Interesting comments!  I don't read Dean Koontz, just not my cup of tea!  I quit reading James Michner many years ago because his books were just to long & to much detail!!  My tastes have changed since then!  Smile

I'm really so glad I discovered "romance" and the eHarlequin community.  Actually I discovered "romance" back in junior high or earlier (books that is!!).  Laughing

Did you like the rain?  I loved it!!  We had a good rain up here last night, loved listening to it although it had tapered off by the time I went to bed and quit!

Take care, happy reading,

Narrative

I have found many of Koontz's books too long-winded in places and often skim.  Honestly I haven't read one if about three years for that very reason.  The books are always good but I don't want to invest the time when I know it's going to annoy me once I start reading.

On a side note:  I can't wait to read Unleashed!

Books and Rain...

What a nice combination, huh?  We loved it, though it delayed the baseball game this morning.  I prefer rain-outs or sun, not delays which leave us at the park for an extra hour.  But it was a nice break from all this heat we've been having lately!

Jillyan, I hope you enjoy Unleashed.  It was really a fun book to write!

Oh, and on lengthy books, I

Oh, and on lengthy books, I don't know how I didn't notice the three-inch spine on this one.  LOL!  I think it was Lisa Scottoline who affected me like you mentioned, Jillyan.  I really loved the one book of hers I read, but she went into so much detail over what even the most minor character looked like, and fully described every room they walked into that I found myself skipping chunks of the book every time a character showed up or walked into a new place.

And then it bugs me because I know how hard the author worked to put all that description in there, I feel I've cheated them somehow by not reading it.  Translate:  Frustration.

As for Koontz, I started reading him with this Odd Thomas series, and they are much shorter.  This was my second venture into a non-Odd book, and I admit that I will pay attention to the width of the book in the future.  I kinda think of 3-hour movies the same way.  No one's that good to hold us for that long, so Lordy, cut some of the scenes!  LOL!
