Fanged & Fabulous (2006) by Michelle Rowen (Warner Books)
We start with Sarah Dearly running, not just for exercise but actually for her life. She had gotten a bit lax and a vampire hunter is now after her. When they get into a standoff and Sarah is trying to talk her way out of her predicament she introduces herself and learns that she now has a reputation as someone to be feared, a slayer of slayers. While this gets her out of the current problem it also puts a big target on her back, from both hunters and vampires. Being newly turned this is explained to her by her 600 year old boyfriend who promptly hires bodyguards to keep an eye on her. As if trying to deal with having to drink blood wasn’t enough, she also has to handle an old boyfriend back in town, people trying to kill her, and her current older boyfriend who she loves to death but who also has something of a drinking problem, not to mention a wife (who is ok with the whole girlfriend to her husband thing). All these factors together, plus some other interesting wrinkles, make for some interesting scenarios that come up.
This was a very enjoyable read. Thierry, the older vamp, is dealing with many (many) years of guilt (some of which is misplaced). Sarah has to handle her boyfriend trying to push her away, for her own good of course, and the old boyfriends old misplaced feelings. This is on top of ending up homeless, the people trying to kill her thing, etc…. This is the first book I have read but the second in a series, which is ok although the background for a lot of this book would be more detailed in the first. The next book is previewed and you meet the main characters in this book.
