Book Blurb

Dear Reader,

Being trapped in a bedroom with a woman is a grand thing. Being trapped in hundreds of bedrooms over two thousand years isn't. And being cursed into a book as a love-slave for eternity can ruin even a Spartan warrior's day.

As a love-slave, I know everything about women. How to touch them, how to savor them, and most of all, how to pleasure them. But when I was summoned to fulfill Grace Alexander's sexual fantasies, I found the first woman in history who saw me as a man with a tormented past. She alone bothered to take me out of the bedroom and into the world. She taught me to love again.

But I was not born to know love. I was cursed to walk eternity alone. AS a general, I had long ago accepted my sentence. Yet now I have found Grace-- the one thing my wounded heart cannot survive without. Sure, love can heal all wounds, but can it break a two-thousand-year-old curse?

My thoughts

The only reason why I read this book was because of so many of my fellow readers raving about the Dark-Hunters series and the new book being released and how they couldn't wait to read it.  So I did what most good book-aholics do, I bought the first in the series.

The blurb didn't grab me, but I trusted the respect I have for my fellow readers and dove in anyway.  And oh my word, am I glad that I did.  I took a lot of mythology classes in college and loved that element in this story.  I think one of the reasons why I stayed away from this book as long as I did was that I do not enjoy time travel books and this sounded close to that premise.  Let me say, it's not.

Fantasy Lover is a unique story with a thick cast of characters and great emotional depths.  Poor Grace and Julian.  They had such concern for each other and trying not to use the other for their own needs.  It was a wonderful read.

I have already bought Night Pleasures and Night Embrace and look forward to reading them soon.  And I am looking forward to hearing about how good Acheron (sp?) is from everyone else but I will be super careful to avoid spoilers because I do enjoy surprises.

If you like paranormals and like me, have somehow managed to miss this series up until now I highly recommend you tracking down Fantasy Lover and giving it a try.

Oooh!  Someone else is

Oooh!  Someone else is starting in on the Dark Hunters series!  Fun to see.  I just got converted myself.  I'm pretty much exactly half way through the 16 full length books out in the series. (there are some short stories, but I haven't read them all, I wasn't in the mood to track 'em down and count the pages towards the book challenge)

But anyhow, I've enjoyed the series so far.  Great passion and great humour.  The heroines and heroes are just lust and lovable.  SK has great style.

Acheron.... oooooh...  I love that man.  I love Simi too.  Adorable. Hilarious.

About the series...  I kind of recommend that you read the books in order if you can....  more and more of the story is slowly revealed that way.  You could of course get away with reading a handful of the books as stand-alones.  But there are some series-long arcs and plotlines.... that you would better understand and appreciate if you read in order.  Like Acheron, each book you usually learn a little more of the puzzle that is Acheron.

here's the link to the order:

And here's the list if you remove all the short stories... (I did this because it was easier for me to keep track)

1 Fantasy Lover 2 Night Pleasures 3 Night Embrace 4 Dance With the Devil 5 Kiss of the Night 6 Night Play 7 Seize the Night 8 Sins of the Night 9 Unleash the Night 10 Dark Side of the Moon 11 Fear the Darkness 12 The Dream-Hunter 13 Devil May Cry 14 Upon the Midnight Clear 15 Dream Chaser

Reading order

I do plan on reading them in order.  I've got the next two and am going to some great used bookstores tomorrow and plan on looking for the next three or four in the series.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has just started in on this series.

I have this one on my to be

I have this one on my to be read list also and like you I haven't read this series yet.  I cannot wait to start this series.

Superfluous then to list

Superfluous then to list the order I guess.  :p   But I was confused by the order for a while, so that's why I posted it.

Tiffany...  it's a good series to read.  I've read the following paranormal series and enjoyed them....  I'm a fan of blood lust stories.  read any of these?

Angela Knight - Magiverse
Nina Bangs - The Mackenzie Vampires
JR Ward - Black Dagger Brotherhood

Book order

I am sure that listing them will help someone else Janet.  There are so many they are easily confused.  If I know I am reading a series I try to track down the order and keep a copy of it with the books to ward off confusion.

Tiffany

You should dig it out of your pile and hook yourself on the series along with Janet and myself.  It really is wonderful.

It was the short stories

It was the short stories that made it confusing!  lol.

When I was reviewing the JR Ward books, I put in brackets (BDB 1, 2, 3 etc).  With the Sherrilyn Kenyon books it's hard to refer to a book by number, excluding the short stories.
