The Firefighter And The Single Mum by Laura Idling-Harlequin Medical Romance-June 08

Aunt Cheryl
Format: Print Books

#51-3 lives are forever changed after firefighter and paramedic,Sam Winters, dies of injuries because of a fire. His young widow,Lindsey, blames herself as they were having marital problems, while his partner,Austin Monroe takes the blame as Sam had been trying to save Austin during the fire. Before dying,Sam asked Austin to take care of Lindsey and their son Josh. This was not to be as Lindsey is a very independent nurse who feels she needs to be in control.

Austin is very shocked when at a fire ,Lindsey and Josh are now living in a nearby cottage, and because of this have no place to stay. Austin offers them to stay with him which adds new dimensions to the situation. Josh is having problems at school,so Austin and Lindsey work on these.

Emotions run high as Austin has been attracted to her ever since he first saw her in the hospital, yet when he realized she was his partner's wife it added to his misery. Now he has a perfect opportunity, but is it to fulfil his own desire or to honor his partner's last request? Will Lindsey be willing to take another chance on love after being hurt by her past?

This was indeed a really emotion-wrenching read because of all raw feelings, hurts, struggles and such. It had to be very difficult for Austin, having such desire for Lindsey yet having to stay in the background because she was married to his partner. It did show him very honorable as he never tried to interfere while they were married, many men would have tried to fulfil their selfishness no matter who got hurt. Lindsey carried alot of baggage due to her mother's behavior and problems in her own marriage to Sam. I feel she does deserve to be happy now and enjoy life with Josh and Austin. None of them will ever forget Sam,but they need to have no regrets, and know that he would want the 3 of them to be happy .

As to the bullying and truancy issues,I agree, they were not handled at all well. Josh was already having problems dealing with his dad's death, don't add threats of counselor and keeping out of school to it. He already had missed school of his own accord in trying to deal with his dad's death, why increase it? The bullying issue needed to be followed through and pushed, I know I couldn't have let it slide. Didn't mean to ramble but this did bring up alot of emotional thoughts.
