From The First Kiss by Jessica Bird
I really enjoyed reading this book as it gripped my attention from the very first page of the book which showed Alex Moorhouse buried in a world of guilt while recuperating from several surgeries to fix his leg. He got his injuries through a sailing accident which killed his best friend. The guilt he had buried himself in is due to the fact that he fell in love with his best friend's wife, Cassandra. One question keeps echoing in his mind which is Did he do enough to save his best friend? Due to his feelings for Cassandra he treats her like he hates her.
This treatment that Alex dolls out to Cassandra every time they meet confuses her as to the reason behind his hatred. It hurts her feelings. Cassandra is left a wealthy widow with her own construction business. Cassandra's marriage wasn't as perfect as Alex thought but she still viewed her husband as her best friend.
Cassandra gets hired by the Moorhouse siblings to renovate the family's bed and breakfast which was destroyed by a fire. This brings her into close quarters with Alex who is recuperating.
I loved this book. The characters were so vivid and the emotions that the H/h felt and experienced was described so beautifully. The love that Alex felt for Cassandra was so intense and deep that it leapt out of the book. I enjoyed reading the love story between these two characters.
This book was part of a trilogy but as I haven't read the other books I cannot compare the other books with this one. Although through reading this book I did get glimpses of J. R. Ward's series of the paranormal which has entranced me from the very first book i read in the series. J. R. Ward is as I have just discovered another pen name for Jessica Bird. I aim to read more of Jessica's book in the future.

Angel - you added a Kiss to the title that shouldn't have been
there LOL but it's an interesting reflection on your feelings for Alex
I enjoyed all her work as both Jessica Bird and JR Ward, but it's not quite the same heat
Her men are always yummy though
