The Giannakis Bride by Catherine Spencer

Format: eBook

3.5 Stars. A good read. Brianna-insecure. Dimitrios-too proud. Betrayal, mistrust played major factors. Brianna tested Dimitrios because he hurt her too deeply. Dimitrios finally admitting his love for Briana after a lot internal struggle. Very sweet ending to show that their love would last for this & another lifetime. But a not keeper-infidelity. NFM

When I read the premise of

When I read the premise of the book....  the first thing I did was look to see if I got the situation right: Hero was with heroine.  Then her interfering twin sister caused problems, and the hero had sex with the twin.  Married the twin and had a child with the twin.  Then heroine comes back into picture.

Then I just went SILENT and paused....  Then I felt this collective "EW" shudder through me.  It was quite a reaction.  This is an icky plot line for me.  I need strong motivation and a big kick to get me past that and make me pick it up.

I hate when the interfering other woman successfully kicks the heroine out of the hero's life, and gets her way, gets the hero into bed, gets the hero to marry her and possibly even think he loves her.  That other woman is never worthy and she's responsible for so much pain.  The fact that it was her TWIN just makes it crushing to me.  Isn't this a twin's worst nightmare?  That her man will have sex with her twin?  To me, it's a big insult to the heroine to use the heroine's own twin/sister this way.  Some people are just OFF LIMITS.   I don't know how I could feel ok about being with a guy who had been with my sister.  One who had left me for my sister.  Eek.

I would give this a try though if I could get myself past this mental roadblock.

Hi, Janet

I do agree with you on the first section of the plot, I recalled after I read the first part, the Betrayal (w/ a capital B), Infidelity, Lies, made me stop reading.  I was thinking, how did I get into this, the 'blurb' was so misleading.  Just for curiousity & because I read this author's other books before, I'd like to see how she made such a bad situation to turn into a convincing & believable HEA.  Well, I think she'd described the sorrow, regrets of the H & h that they could be forgiven & could move forward.  That's why I said it's 'a good read'.

I know books dealing with

I know books dealing with icky things can still be GOOD books.  It can be cathartic.  It can just be handled so well that you go through the emotions and come out thinking "whew!"   I've read some books with things that icked me out, and some of them still made me think "good book".  If the author crafts the story well enough, you feel things were necessary to get to the HEA or that was just the person the H/h was and growth was needed to get to that HEA.

Anyhooo...  for me to pick up a book that has an ick factor for me, I just need a big kick to get past the ick.  The promise of "the HEA is good and makes sense" makes me open to reading the book eventually, but I have to be in the mood to read through the Betrayal with a "B" first.

Eventually....  I'll probably get to it eventually.

Misleading Blurb

Janet,

I read the blurb & the sample first chapter, nothing like that icky part in it.  I like the way the author did the ending, but I wouldn't say this book is a keeper.
