A Girl's Best Friend

Down on her luck and out of work Mikki checked her mail box and found a letter that was delivered fifty years later in present day.  Reading the letter she discovered that it hinted at treasure to be found, so having no other alternative Mikki decided to follow the clues of the letter, which would first take her to a small town in Texas.

Shawn a reporter who saw too much of the world's worst behavior against human kind was in the same small town trying to recapture his heart and soul.  There arrived Mikki who immediately peaked Shawn's interest because class and beauty like hers did not belong in a dead end town like this.

After getting sick and having to rely on Shawn, Mikki tried to get rid of him but then had to tell him the truth, but she did not trust him.  Then after opening the strong box and finding two diamonds they decided to follow the clues to the treasure, but then a drunk stole one of the diamonds and told a wild tale that some town members decided to check out.

They had several dangerous encounters while searching for the treasure but they eventually found the treasure in diamonds and was immediately held up by the town librarian and her cousin, who threatened to tie them up and leave them in the ghost town.

They escaped and ended up in more trouble after that, but soon escaped that trouble also.

Nice adventure book, a bit far fetched but I guess that is what fantasies are.
