The Good Father by Maggie Kingsley, M&B Med Rom, 2006
Maddie is madcap and wacky. Gabriel is not. Can they really make a go of it? Kingsley does it again (well, she did it again—this is another book written several years ago). She creates characters that are at the opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. Maddie is warm, nurturing, and loving. Gabe is rigid, demanding, and cold. But he shows his vulnerabilities and she shows her backbone—one of the reasons I enjoy Kingsley’s books so much. Kingsley has an ability to create emotion that lifts right off the page. This was one of those stories that made me laugh through so much of it, but near the end, I felt the pain of heart-tearing loss in two separate scenes. Thumbs up!
Maddie needs money. But she is over qualified for the posted job, but she needs to work regular hours. Gabrielle Dalgleish, neonatologist and demanding boss of the unit needs a secretary and chooses the over qualified candidate hoping to get her to accept a different position in a few months time. Of course, they fall for each other, but he is not sure he can be the dad her children need. Does he bail on her, or does he discover he is just good enough?
