The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
I've just been to the tiny island of Guernsey for my daughter's wedding. It seemed a no-brainer to take with me a copy of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society to fill in the moments not occupied by flowers, cake and lace covered buttons!
The book is written as a series of letters and this can be a difficult trick to pull off. Mary Ann Shaffer does it with wit and charm, revealing a wonderful cast of characters talking about their war time experiences and rebuilding their lives after the war.
The Society, formed in a moment of genius by the absent heroine of the book, to avoid punishment for breaking the wartime curfew, becomes the focus of unexpected and unlikely friendships.
There are some intensely moving scenes and a wonderful love story unfolds as relationships grow.
And absolute joy.

I enjoyed this one a lot. I just fell in love with the community there and I liked the romantic touch too! I couldn't resist the title.
