Heat Wave by Stephanie Bond, Leslie Kelly, Heidi Betts... QC #253
Heat Wave by Stephanie Bond, Leslie Kelly, Heidi Betts, July 2007
Rex on the Beach by Stephanie Bond- Private investigator Lucinda Belvedere is hired to track down a runaway groom. It is believed that best man Rex McCormick might know the grooms whereabouts. And with Lucy having 100% success rate, how far will she go to get the information? Can she keep her feelings out of it?
I wasn't impressed with this story. There was no honesty on either's part. He was at his beach house trying to decide if he wanted to marry his girlfriend of a year. It was no accident that she ran into him. She even dyed her hair to red because redheads appealed to him.
Excellence Rating- Good ~ Steaminess Rating- Yummy (*)

Getting into Trouble by Leslie Kelly- After an incident at work as a counsellor and caseworker with the Florida Department of Children and Families, Damon Cole decided he couldn't do it anymore and quit. No sure where his life is going he joins his cousin's carnival as a hypnotist. Most women are throwing themselves at him; Allie Cavanaugh seems to be heading in the other direction. But was the kiss she gave him because she was under a spell or is this the real Allie?
I really liked this story. The main thing the had to resolve is the fact that he told her because of his experience that he may not be able to let himself be close to a child again. Unbeknownst to him she has a 10 month old son.

Shaken and Stirred by Heidi Betts- A while after breaking up with her boyfriend of three years Abby Weaver's friend convinces her she needs a vacation. The day before they are to go, her friend informs her that she has to stay in town for a while longer but Abby should go. Finally Abby relents and head to Fort Lauderdale by herself. As she struggles trying to carry an umbrella, beach bag and cooler, Mike Mastriani stopped to help her. What was even more puzzling to her was that this hot guy wanted to get to know her better and he wasn't interested in the younger big breasted, skinnier females on the beach. Soon they are spending a lot of time together. Both start having feelings for each other but don't voice them and then one day while she is having dinner at his parent's house, a woman stops by. A woman that Mike sees on and off since high school. A woman who thinks the relationship is more serious than what Mike believes. A woman who thinks the relationship might head to marriage.
Very good story. With the recent break-up of her long term relationship and living in the shadow of her gorgeous friend I think Abby self esteem took some hard knocks. I liked that they had fun in their relationship like giggling at him one time at the beach because he had an erection.
Excellence Rating- Very Good ~ Steaminess Rating- Yummy (*)

Heat Wave
You write the best reviews! I read this one in last year's challenge and truly enjoyed it as well. Of course, Stephanie Bond and Leslie Kelly are two favorites and now I've added Heidi Betts. Thanks!

Thank you
your words make it worthwhile to sit here and write these reveiws.
I usually like Stephanie Bonds writing a lot more. I haven't read a lot of Leslie Kelly but what I have read I've enjoyed. I really liked the Heidi Betts story. Maybe it was my cynical side coming out but I kept thinking "what's wrong with him, he seems too perfect"
cause he was saying the right thing and doing the right things.

in fact I was thinking about this one just last week when I was browsing over at Mills and Book UK .... they have an anthology with these three novellas plus two more by Kate Austin and Jennifer Greene .... it's a Special Release titled ... Summer Fever
I love Leslie Kelly .... I've collected her entire backlist and have read the first half .... she grand at giving secondary characters their own stories .... she shows how her books are linked on her website

I kind of got that
there were connected Leslie Kelly books because the h's boss has two grandsons, Mike(She's no Angel) and Max(Here Comes Trouble also with h's sister)(I just checked I have Here Comes Trouble
and asking for Trouble but AFT is then connected to the Santori books. it never ends
)

ROFL, Christa!
you are so right .... with Leslie's books it never ends .... that's why I picked up her entire backlist and started reading from the beginning .... but unfortunately, I started reading her books before I started journalling what I've read ..... so now I've forgotten so much about the characters I'll want to go back and start at the beginning again!
hmmm .... actually that's not a bad idea .... I could get into a Leslie Kelly month .... hmmmm

Sorry Christa...
Yeah, I have this habit of wanting to get to know secondary characters better, so it never does end...
Honestly, it's not always intentional. I write a book and have no intention of revisiting it, but then some minor character won't get out of my head, so five or six books down the line, I might go back to him/her. That's how I wrote Into The Fire, which was my 4th book, but tied into my 1st. No intention of making it a series, and the books were so loosely connected, you definitely didn't "need" to read them in order, or to read the others at all!
And that's kind of the way Asking For Trouble fits into the Santori stories. You do NOT have to read one series or the other for that book, it stands completely alone. But I had been asked to do a gothic Blaze, I wanted to do Lottie's story, and I'd already written about this creepy hotel in Trouble. It just felt like a natural fit.
I am so glad you enjoyed Heat Wave...Allie plays a pretty big role in Here Comes Trouble, so I hope you enjoy that, too.
And thanks for all the other nice words from the rest of you guys, too! I'm so glad my Google alert let me know...lolol!

Hey Leslie!
So nice to see you!
Nope, we're not complaining :) .... we love all those delectable connections
you are so right .. you books are always great as stand alones and really don't need to be read in order or together .... I'm one of those readers though that loves to read books in order of publication .... once I find an author I love, I have to go back to the beginning .... that's exactly what I did with your backlist!
your heroes are always so delish! ;)
