Hex and The City by Simon Green is the fourth book in the Nightside series and I gobbled it up like delicious dark chocolate.  There' s something about the way Green writes and the macbre subject matter that satisfies me every time.

This time PI John Taylor is in WAY over his head.  Lady Luck has come to see him and she wants to hire him to find out when and by whom was the Nightside created.  He knows if he takes this on, everyone in the city will be after him to stop him, there are too many secrets to be discovered, but he does anyway, because hey, he's John Taylor and he never backs down from a challenge.

So he ask two unlikely people to be his partners in this, Madman, who is living on the edge of reality, and Sinner, a man who's been to hell but was kicked out for bad behavior.  With these two on his side, he's sure to go the distance.   But at the end of the journey John knows he's going to find the one thing he's been searching for his whole life...his mother who abandoned him many many years ago.

I loved this book.  It sped along like a bullet train.  I was caught up in the story from word one to the final one.  Green's books are like candy to me.  I crave them and when I get one I gobble it up all in one bite.

Be warned though this series is not for the faint of heart!!  Blood and guts abound.
