High Noon by Nora Roberts, 2007
Nora continues to write books that I don't want to put down.
Phoebe MacNamara, Savannah's top hostage negotiator, realized her calling at an early age. As a child her family was held hostage by a man dating her mother. Thankfully the result was they all got out alive and the man was put in prison. That situation left her brother traumatized and her mother in need of help. Cousin Bess ungraciously took the small family in where Phoebe, her daughter Carly and her mother are still living. Phoebe has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders but she seems to be managing it all okay.
On St. Patrick's Day Phoebe is called to negotiate with a man that is threatening suicide. His wife has left him, he lost his job, he has gambling debt which has left him feeling there is no other way out. When Phoebe arrives on scene she meets his former employer, Duncan, who is feeling desparate to save this man's life. He will do whatever he can to get the man back inside instead of jumping.
Neither Phoebe or Duncan expected anything to come of their meeting on St. Patrick's Day. Both are attracted but Phoebe resists as she just doesn't know when she would find the time to date or get involved. Duncan is every woman's dream guy, smart, caring and to top it off rich! Duncan is attracted to Phoebe because she is smart, caring and doesn't back down from life.
This story is filled with suspense, tension, romance, family, terror all which will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next.

Hi Donna
I read this last summer during my week off. Loved it. But then, there probably isn't any of hers I don't like.
