Back Cover:
His one-month mistress...
Jake Rendel is a successful millionaire who works and plays hard--unlike Emma Delaney, who's stifled by her uninspiring job. So Jake makes Emma a proposition to shake off her prim-and-proper image: for a month, they'll pretend to have a steamy affair!
Emma's out of her depth--and things quickly get passionate in private as well as in public. Soon the girl-next-door is wishing the month of mistress make-believe will never end....
Favourite Scene:
He took the glass from her fingers and set it on the table that stood conveniently near. Things always worked that way for Jake. He stepped near enough for her to feel his energy but not close enough that they were actually touching. A sliver of electric-charged atmosphere separated them.
‘Going for more than friendly now, Emma,’ he warned her.
Another Fav Scene:
At three p.m. they all congregated in the small bar off the lobby to watch the race.
Jake walked in and sidled up next to her. ‘You know, we could bet with something other than money.’
‘What were you thinking of?’ She forced her concentration on the big screen, not on what she wanted to do with the hunk next to her.
‘Hmm. My horse wins, you’re on top. Your horse wins, you’re on top.’
Yet Another Fav Scene: (DON'T READ, IF YOU WISH TO REMAIN UNSPOILED... it's kind of a key scene)
‘Do me a favour.’
‘Mmm.’ Deliriously happy, giddy from multiple orgasms, curled in his arms, she couldn’t move.
‘Whatever I ask, you have to say yes.’
She smiled. ‘I am not having a threesome.’
‘Just say yes, Emma. It’s not hard.’
She reached behind her. ‘Yes, it is.’
‘I’m not kidding.’ The tension in his voice caught her. She heard his drawn breath. ‘Just say yes.’
She turned her head and looked at him. ‘You’re serious.’ She saw his unsmiling face, unusually strained. ‘Jake?’
‘Marry me.’
My Review:
Wowza. I had lots of favourite scenes in this one. It was a great fun, light, passionate read. I liked that there was a bit of history between them, and that the history wasn't angst filled and about rejection, they just never got started on dating in the past. The heroine was nicely innocent. I liked her secret life and ambitions. When she started sharing her secrets with the hero (not by choice) it got interesting because he was seeing the real her: passionate. I loved their passion together. I loved that it was so intense and special for them. I had a few close moments where I thought "this could get icky" when some of the hero's multiple exes were mentioned (jeez, exes can really get in the way of making a book "romantic" when you have to deal with coming face-to-face with the women you man used to have sex with! It was pretty neatly written by the author though, she had the heroine realize that she didn't CARE about the past, she was overwhelmed by her present)
My Rating: 4/5 stars, great light, funny, sexy read.

HI Janet!
I enjoyed this one too. And you mentioned all of my favourite scenes. I especially liked the last one (the spoiler). I've only read 2 books by NA - but both got top marks with me.

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the pleasure is having lots to do and not doing it!
I think this is the only one
I think this is the only one I've read from NA... but I'll keep an eye out for more from her. This is the kind of read I like... fun, modern, light, humourous, passionate... good times.

.. you guys made my day! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one... it was written at a crazy time for me (I had newborn premmie twins) and at the time I wondered if it was ever going to make sense!
Happy reading!
