HOME TO HOLLY SPRINGS
I've loved Jan Karon's books since the first of the Mitford series, In HOME TO HOLLY SPRINGS, she takes beloved Father Tim back to his hometown in response to a mysterious summons. The trip also takes him back in memories to a troubled childhood, and he realizes he'll only find peace with his past when he resolves the unfinished business of years ago. This is a bit darker than some of the Mitford books, but it is a wonderful read.

I didn't like it as well as the first series. The coincidences were just rolling in, especially towards the end.

I started this book at ten at night and read until the end
It did have coincidences as FF said but to me they were believable. It certainly made me think about what happened in the southern USA after emancipation. I have read other reviews on other sites about this book and most were favorable. A few complained about her bad language but I didn't find it offensive. I don't know if you could read this as a stand alone book as there is still a lot of Mitford in it. I liked the confirmation that the last of Dooley's brothers did make it home. I loved the other found relative as well.

Yes, but it annoyed me that
Yes, but it annoyed me that she just had the last of Dooley's brothers drop in at the farm without giving any explanation of how he knew to go there. I know she was trying to emphasize the miracle, but I would have appreciated knowing this miracle was brought about. I thought that JK was rushing to get him back with the clan and didn't develop his arrival enough.
This was also true in the Holly Springs book. I liked it, but I adored the Mitford series.

FF Re I think it was Kenny's arrival in the last Mitford book
It wasn't ever explained how he came because it was supposed to be a miracle but it was a bit of a cliff hanger as you just had to assume it was him. I didn't like that either. There were a few things, ie the right blood match, that were a bit of a stretch for me as well. It has been a while since I read the book but I have taken it back out of the library so I can review it. I saw that you had read all of the Mitford books but I always thought there were nine of them but I haven't figured out which one you missed.
