This one is set back in 1873 when the settlers and Indians were still waging war against one another. This story is about a young woman that was rescued from a comanche raid by the soldiers. The woman had blue eyes and was called Eyes-of-the-Sky, and spoke no english. As far as she was concerened, she was comanche, she had never known anything else. Her parents loved her and spolied her they even let her pick her own husband to be, which was not a comman thing to do. But he was killed along with her family when the soldiers took her away. She is given to a household, and she assumes she is a slave. However, Hattie the Mother and Joe the son had lost a husband & father and daughter and sister to the comanche 8 years or so ago. And Hattie had been raped and has a scar where they began the scalping process. Hattie is sure they can help the girl, Joe is not sure, even if she is white, she was raised and thinks comanche. Hattie calls the girl Deborah, and as she wonders where she belongs.
