The House on Briar Hill Road

I take my hat off to Ms Jacobs. This is a beautifully written description of loss and grief that really hits home.  For Hayden McNulty, Brian Conway and his mother, Kathleen, have always been her family, but when the breast cancer Kathleen had thought she'd conquered returns all three characters are forced to exmine their relationship with each other, the meaning of family, and the meaning of love. At times uncomfortably honest - you'll cry buckets over some parts - it never triviliases or sensationalises but is a most moving and - in the end uplifting - account of what it means to lose someone you love.
