House of Glass by Sara Seale 1949

Brought up by her minister father, Maggy was left without resources or work skills when he died. She worked as a companion-maid to a wealthy woman and her personality stiflrd. Garth Shelton, a paraplegic visiting at the same hotel, offered Maggie an alternate job ahis companion/wife in order to free her and to enable her to receive an inheritence from him upon his expected demise within the year.

The slow growth of communication and affection between the two is sweet and subtle.

I liked it.
