Shannon O'Malley is sick of her mom pressuring her to get married. Now her mom's made a bet with her sister's friend's mom over whose daughter will marry first – and set a date for Shannon and her nonexistent boyfriend. Shannon is cutting loose in the bar and meets her bartender/friend's friend from high school, Nate Calder, who's suffering from a similar parental affliction with his mother who's pressing him for babies. So one thing leads to another and they agree to masquerade as their mother's worst dreams to slow down the parental pressure. Shannon will date Nate as Roxy, an exotic dancer, and Nate will be Bull, the biker. Only as they spend time together they are attracted and grow closer...
I really liked this one – it was funny but not ridiculous and Shannon and Nate have an easy going and realistic chemistry. The way they did the whole alternate personalities was also handled well (and mild enough that I could imagine real people doing this) – it was really funny when they all ran into Shannon's work colleagues – who she had described as a stripper and a bouncer (really fellow high school teachers) – while out with Nate's parents. Only things that bothered me were two standard romance cliches – the whole “I've never laughed while making love before” thing and the “a relative/friend has to tell me before I realize I'm in love” thing. Both of those drive me crazy but are so widely used I do let 'em go.
