Justice For A Ranger

Rita Herron is one of my favourite authors, she always spins a twisted tail with an end no one saw. This one was the same enjoyable read.

In this book two family outcasts are brought together to free a father, find a dead brother, and bring justice to the town of justice. Texas ranger Cole McKinney was called to Justice by his half brothers to prove his fathers innocent in two murders. Cole has no intrest in his "family" only to solve the law, to him it doesn't matter that Jim McKinney slept with his mother and left without looking back, without taking care of him or his mother. Joey Hendricks was asked to come to Justice by the governer to keep an eye on the murder case, considering Coles half brothers were texas rangers too, and were also working on the case. Joey also sets herself on a mission to find out what happened to her 2 year old brother Justin who was kidnapped when she was 13 during a fire that almost killed herself, her drunk mother and house keeper Rosa. When the kidnapping doesn't turn up a ransom note, and Justin is presumed dead, the chance 13 year old Joey had of a family re-union is smashed. Now when Jim Mckinney, and Joeys parents Donna and Leland are all suspected of murder and kidnapping. But who killed and who kidnapped? When Joey and Cole get close together, and close to the murderer , attempts are made on Joey's life. But she refuses to give up. In the end she finds out, Rosa her housekeeper, and the woman that practically raised her when her mother was drunk killed the girl, and tried to kill her sister. Rosa also took Justin away when she learned that Joey's father Leland was going to kidnapp him because he had found out he wasn't his father. So Rosa takes him to a family she thinks will raise him well, and they do. Justin, now Caleb, lives on a ranch with the Sangston family knowing nothing of his twisted families ordeal. As it turns out, Leland isn't his father but the governer is. The governer who preached family values had an affair with Donna Joey's mother. After everyone involved is in custody, the Mckinney brothers finally accept Cole, and he finally tells Joey he loves her :D
