Sloan Matthews has been working on this smuggling case for 11 months and just needs some concrete evidence before they can arrest their chief suspect, so when his boss tells him he needs to go undercover at the guy's house as a nanny he goes along with it even though he knows nothing about kids. He's supposed to have the run of the house since the suspect and his wife are out of the country, but the kids' aunt, Jo Calhoun, and great-grandmother show up unexpectedly and move in for the week. Jo is suspicious of Sloan right off the bat when they walk in and find him gagged and tied up with duct tape (he didn't want to hurt them by stopping them). But her grandmother senses some chemistry between the two and urges them to hook up. Which they do, despite Sloan vowing not to get involved with his suspects (he justifies it by being sure she isn't involved). But while they bond together and with the kids, time is running out to solve the case...will Sloan's arrest ruin their relationship?
Yeah, so I was wondering how they were going to pull this one off (would they give custody of the kids to Jo and Sloan when they packed the parents off to prison?) but the author took the easy way out and (SPOILERS) had the father be being set up by his housekeeper out of the blue. So yes, following an 11 month investigation building a case against this guy, everything they know to be true turns out not to be when Jo finds out Sloan is a detective and cracks the case and her grandmother finds a smuggled bowl "hidden" in a kitchen cabinet providing the needed physical evidence. Yeah. Also, we've got another one of those superbrilliant-only-in-romance-novels kids here... And get this, Sloan is a thirtysomething guy who has never dated a woman long enough to experience PMS – so that's what, no relationship lasting even a month? - but happily marries Jo six months after meeting her. Seriously. I mean I get that this is supposed to be lighthearted and unrealistic and fun, but all this just went a little to far for me.
