I LOVE historical romance, unfortunately I did not LOVE this book even t
hough I really, really wanted to. I found the hero wooden, despite the angst the author claimed he was suffering from, and the heroine's unwavering devotion to a man who alternately ignored and used her seemed a little too naive, which although perhaps appropriate to the time period, wasn't appropriate in a romance novel where we are meant to be sympathetic and hopeful that true love will prevail.
The book seemed to get all caught up odd details mid way rather than building and developing the characters and their feelings. I felt there were too many lost or dropped opporunites for insight into the Hero's motivations and the heroine's character was just a little too one note for me....oh well, better luck next time.
