The Last Summer (of You and Me) is an adult novel written by the author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Talk about beach reads! This one starts off at a place where city folks spend their summers. Where kids don't wear their shoes, unless they are coming or leaving the island. Where more time is spent on a beach, getting sand in any crevice deemed imaginable, than anywhere else. And most importantly, where kids roam free and get their first taste of life.
I picked up this book on a Tuesday and had finished it by Friday. It was one of those stories you find yourself immersed in immediately. You root for every character, for different reasons, because Ann Brashares makes them so likable.
This book took me straight back to my childhood. Or rather, my more formative years, when I found myself spending more time with my best friend than with my family. When I was just getting my feet wet in the ocean of life (oh boy, that's cliche!). Where dreams seemed so possible...
