I recently asked my Sunday School class to remember me and a family situation in prayer. Later that day, a friend from the same class told me she had a book that might help me deal with my family situation. She explained to me that it was by the Christian comedian Chonda Pierce, but it was definitely NOT funny.
Less than a week later I received the book from her. I just finished reading the book today, and, well she wasn't joking....it wasn't the least bit humorous.
For those of you who are wondering, the title is "laughing in the dark" and it is "A Comedian's Journey through Depression". It is a VERY GOOD book!
HOWEVER, I was not in the least bit prepared for this book! It is all about recognizing the signs of depression and getting help. The further I read, the more I wondered what my friend was trying to tell me. Does she think I'm depressed? Does she think I need to see a psychiatrist for meds? Is a Christian counselor in my near future???
I honestly must say, I did not "enjoy" this book. With every chapter I read I found myself having too much in common with Mrs. Pierce. I kept looking at my husband saying, "I don't like what this book is saying to me!"
So, I have a question for you all brave enough to wander into the depths (or shallows) of my mind and read this blog. If the skeletons in your closet aren't knocking on the door, is there ever a GOOD reason to drag them out anyway????
