I've been wanting to read this book for a while, especially since so many people have recommended it to me. At first the concept sounded too creepy and depressing for me--fourteen year old girl is raped and murdered, and then proceeds to watch her family, friends and her killer from heaven, seeing how they cope with her death and move on with their lives.
After reading it, the concept was still creepy and depressing, but the story was absolutely wonderful. It was emotional and sucked me in right from the first line, I connected with every character and their loss, and I cried way too many times to count.

I had this book for a while. I'm not sure where I got it from, but I ended up giving it away in a promotion without ever reading it. Like you said, the story line sounded too depressing. I just can't deal with those kinds of story lines anymore, and always figure if I want to be sad, I'll just read the news.
