Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward (Book 5)

*Possible spoiler: I speculate on a theory about Darius in my review*

Favourite Scene:

With no warning at all she was tackled from behind, pushed face-first into the wall and held in place by a rock-hard body twice the size of her own. Her gasp was first one of shock, then one of sex as she felt V grind into her ass.

"I tried to tell you no," he growled as his hand buried itself in her hair and locked on, pulling her head back. As she cried out she ran wet between her legs. "Tried to be nice."

"Oh… God—"

"Praying's not going to help. Too late for that, Jane." There was regret in his voice—as well as erotic inevitability. "I gave you a chance to have it on your terms. Now we'll do this on mine."

My Review:

I loved the opening scene where Jane had a Ouija board predict her husband would be "Vishous", I pretty much squealed.  I liked that Butch and Vishous had a talk about V's sexual preferences, there was this connection between them and it was good to get it out there and know how V felt, what it meant to him.  I liked Jane and V together and I could see them having a future together.  I was sad at the end when they lost their future together.  The future they did get didn't seem to be quite the normal HEA that they DESERVED, they had both had sadness in their lives and deserved more imo.  I am curious about the stuff with John that was brought up: it seems like John is Darius reincarnated, it feels like there has been heavy heavy hints dropped about that (the seizures, the memories John has of Darius's car bomb death and Darius's meeting with Tohr, the fact that Darius should have known of his birth but inexplicably didn't, the reaction to Beth).  I'm curious about Payne, V's twin, and what kind of life she's been leading sehcluded by their mom.

My Rating: 4/5 stars, I was crying at the end.

Janet

I was so sad with this one to. That is why I was a bit hesitant to start this latest book. I don't know if I can keep taking stuff like that happening. I mentioned that this new one might be my last if I get depressed. There were some stuff that I was grossed out by but also some stuff that I was really happy to see in the new one. I am so looking forward to Johns book.

Does anyone else think Manny Manelo is a BROTHER?  When V met him, he thought "brother" mentally.  And Jane does have a friendship connection with him, so she might be motivated to see him again and he might enter the Brother's lives and more might develop there....  could Manny be another Butch?  With a latent connection to the BDB?

HI Janet!

SPOILER:

You are right - John is Darius.  If you recall in DL when the Scribe Virgin talked to him he was told he could return, but must forfeit something (his voice box).  Of course, after the testing they all think he is Darius' son and Beth's brother.  It will be interesting how this will unfold - he has had some deja vu moments, so will he regain his memory of being Darius?

And about Manny - this topic was big last fall about him being a possible relation to Butch, but we never did come to a conclusion and I guess we'll have to wait to see how it all plays out!

Well I didn't think that

Well I didn't think that Manny had to be a relative of Butch...  but Manny could just be in the same position as Butch and have a BROTHER in his family tree.

I hope John gets outed as Darius eventually, that would be a MAJOR PAYOFF moment, a huge moment.

I also am hugely looking forward to a bigger showdown between Butch and The Omega... I want to see this war come down to a showdown there...  I'd love to see Butch eventually take him out completely.  And it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that day coming right?  The Omega is a finite being and if they take the essence of enough lessers.....

Heh.... and btw.....  I

Heh.... and btw.....  I definately think I need to go on a rampage with the HPs/SDs now.  After reading five books that were 500 pages, I could use a few shorter little ditties where I can reach the HEA quicker!  I like to read books in one sitting, and damn these past few days I've been a little antisocial and losing sleep and missing meals trying to read 'em in one sitting!

I had just been considering

I had just been considering starting this group of books. I don't think I will, now. I don't need anything else to make me depressed. Wink

It sounds super sexy, though. So I might change my mind.Laughing

It's not denial. I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

Jana's Off-site blog

they are the last warriors of a dying race, fighting for survival against people determined to make them extinct so everything is not lightness and fun. Given that vampires live a thousand years or so, when they fall in love with humans there's no simple solution, and J.R. Ward sets things up several books in advance so there are usually things that leave you with unanswered questions.

They are also extremely addictive (IMHO)

Dark Lover should have been issued with a warning "Highly addictive, one of a long series, read at your own risk!"

Jana....  I don't find the

Jana....  I don't find the books depressing really.  There is a lot of darkness in the series, after all - VAMPIRE - and all....  But everyone who starts out messed up finds love and gets to a better place in their life....  even when dealing with unhappy things, the Brothers are good men and tease each other and lighten the mood.
