With a self centered teenage daughter, single mother Aimee Blake decides o go with neighbor Erica to a singles meeting. She meets Jacob who tells her about Substitute Siblings where adults help children in school with homework or just spend time with them. She agrees to go to the introduction meeting and then agrees to meet Chloe. Chloe is now living with her grandmother and goes to the same school as Aimee's daughter. Chloe is very shy, poor and really likes Aimee, but Aimee is slow to get involved but Jacob encourages her.
