The Marine's Baby (HSR May-08)

The letter to her dead husband, Luke, asking whether he wants to pay to preserve, to donate, or to destroy his sperm gives Caitlin Calhoun an idea. She wants to have his baby. A mix-up at the fertility clinic means that her husband’s half-brother Lucky is the father instead. Lucky never wanted to become a father. He has too much conflict in his family already.  He has been receiving some of his dead half-brother’s mail since they have the same first name, and realizes that the widow has some hefty bills to pay. He decides to pay some of them, especially the one for the engagement ring.  When the two of them meet Caitlin can’t get over how much Lucky looks like Luke so the baby should look like her dead husband.  She is heartsick about the mix-up but determined to keep it a secret.

This is story filled with sub-stories and lots of family conflict.  With so much going on it shouldn’t be believable but it works. It is a very thought provoking and heart warming story. I will read this author again.

This is one of

my favorite authors. I love her books and I also won a contest she ran right before this book came out and I won a giftcard and a signed book. She doesn't put many books out but they're all great. The Seal's Baby was awesome. She was in the Navy so her books are very believable.

I think this is the first book I have read by her

At first the concept of a sperm bank mix-up seemed a bit far fetched but once I got into the story I started rooting for Lucky to end up with Caitlin. It really gave me an insight into  the military life and as I said a very believable one.  Sometimes there is a fairy tale element to a story that works IE Prince or Tycoon who ends up with poor girl etc. but I can only read so many of those before I want a dose of more everyday life. I think that is why I read from so many different lines. I will definitly buy a book of hers again.

Rogenna Brewer's "The Marine's Baby"....

was wonderful!  And I have Deb's review to thank for introducing me to this wonderful author.  I just found The Seal's Baby the other day and I've got her latest one in my TBR as well.  Definitely looking forward to reading them both.
