Milkrun by Sarah Mlynowski (Red Dress Ink)

Jackie Norris is a copy editor at a Harlequin type romance novel publisher in Boston, and she's just learned that her ish-boyfriend Jer (for whom she moved to Boston but who then decided he needed time to "find himself" in Thailand) is sleeping with another girl in Thailand. So she resolves to get out there and date and get over Jer and maybe find a husband along the way. She's 24. She's also kinda childish, for instance when she counts the places she's lived, she goes out of her way to include the place her mom lived when pregnant. Anyway so her similarly aged roommate Samantha is also thinking marriage only her ultimatum scares her boyfriend off, leaving our two girls and their friend Natalie free to check out all the bars like Orgasm and the guys. Jackie jumps run into the dating scene – there's Jon and Damon and when Jeremy gets back from Thailand Jackie heads to NY to sleep with him again too. But by the end of the book, it's clear (SPOILERS) that it's Andrew, Jeremy's friend, that she's supposed to be with, only this being chicklit and our heroine being ditsy enough that she slept with her cheating ex slutboy Andrew insists that they give it some time before they hook up, leaving us with Jackie headed to Europe and our hero/heroine only having had sex with other people during the book.

So let me just say, chick lit is SOOO not my thing. Seriously – couldn't Andrew and Jackie have hooked up once or twice to counterbalance all that other non satisfying sex? That totally sucked. Also sucking, the random conversion into email narrative for several chapters mid-novel. But I did laugh at various parts of the book and I was happy for Sam, so it wasn't a complete waste of my reading time.. just mostly. Note to self: do not read chick lit, even when other people give you the books for free.
